Romania: No decision yet regarding Eurovision 2026 participation

Romania’s public broadcaster TVR has not yet made a decision regarding its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, according to Eurovoix.

As reported, the Romanian broadcaster is still in the process of evaluation and has not clarified whether it has submitted a provisional application to compete. A final decision is expected after the EBU General Assembly in December, when Romania’s stance on taking part in the 70th Eurovision Song Contest — set to take place in Vienna — will be confirmed.

The country, which withdrew from the contest in 2024 due to financial and organizational reasons, had been an active participant since 1994. Dan Turturică, Director of TVR, has previously stated that the worsening relationship between the broadcaster and Romania’s music industry is one of the main reasons behind the country’s withdrawal. He added that TVR does not have the freedom to choose the best songs to represent Romania, while record labels do not support the broadcaster’s focus on quality.

Romania last took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 with Theodor Andrei and the song “D.G.T. (Off And On)”, which failed to score any points in its Semi-Final.
