Netherlands: Clarification on the country’s Eurovision 2026 participation coming soon

The Netherlands remains silent on whether it will take part in Eurovision 2026. A spokesperson for AVROTROS told NOS that the Dutch broadcaster is sticking to its previous statement, in which it announced that no further comment would be given while discussions with the EBU are still ongoing. The spokesperson assured that more clarity on the country’s position will be provided soon, as pressure on the EBU continues.

Meanwhile, the debate surrounding Israel’s participation remains the central issue dividing Europe. Four countries, Slovenia, Spain, Iceland, and Ireland have already stated they will not participate if Israel remains in the competition.

Ireland made its stance clear today through RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst, who called Israel’s participation “unjustifiable,” citing the “horrific and ongoing” loss of life in Gaza. Slovenia has taken a similar stance, already announcing it will not take part unless Israel is excluded. Spain’s Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun also stressed that Israel’s presence at international events cannot be “normalized.” Likewise, Stefán Eiríksson, Director General of Icelandic public broadcaster RÚV, warned that if the EBU does not revise its position, Iceland will withdraw from Eurovision 2026.

The deadline for confirming participation has been extended to December, giving all countries more time to make their decisions. Eurovision 2026 will take place in May in Vienna, with attention now focused on the broadcasters threatening to withdraw.
