🇩🇪 Germany: Eurovision Winning Songwriter Bernd Meinunger Has Died Aged 81

Bernd Meinunger, who wrote nineteen songs for the Eurovision Song Contest, has died at the age of 81.

Lyricist and record producer Bernd Meinunger has died at the age of 81. Bernd was first involved with the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 when he wrote the lyrics for “Dschinghis Khan”, through his collaboration with composer Ralph Siegel, he would go on to have a further eighteen songs compete at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Bernd’s best result in the competition came in 1982 when Nicole took victory for Germany in Harrogate with “Ein bißchen Frieden”. His last involvement came 10 years ago when Michele Perniola & Anita Simoncini performed “Chain of Lights” at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria for San Marino.

Outside of the Eurovision Song Contest, he wrote over 5,500 songs during his lifetime, with over 200 songs entering the top 100 of charts across the globe.
